These are probably the dispruptive kids in their classrooms, the ones who run around in restaurants, bolt through the grocery store etc. etc. all while the ignorant parents think everything is fine. If someone complains they cry "poor me" or the complainer is labeled a child hater. They need parenting classes more than cross country travel. They also need a few other things, but I don't want to sound mean...

I hope more airlines follow this and do something about families who don't make any attempt to control their kids.

We had a miserable flight to Orange County on AA last week. A couple were traveling with 3 kids ranging from age 2 to 6. The two younger kids screeched for the first half of the 4 hour flight and kept fighting and pulling on each other. The parents did nothing! They were sitting on back to back rows and didn't bother separating the children. They had no games, books, toys to entertain their children either. We were lucky the kids got exhausted and fell sleep.

When's the lawsuit....?

Maybe after they win $30 million they'll have some money in their pockets...or maybe not!

So, Marginal, are you saying that if airfares get higher, then the people who can afford to fly won't be "drunk/smelly/pompous/stupid"? Yeah, like there aren't any drunk, smelly, pompous or stupid rich people.

They were all on their way to Seattle? I'm confused. When did the Jerry Springer show start taping in Seattle?

From Detroit to Seattle via Phoenix ... not exactly the direct route.

Is that how the Jerry Springer show was routing them?

Bill_H, I think going through Phoenix IS the direct route for many of Southwest's flights.

A sad story and a story that appears as though the mother needs parenting classes. Our city gives for free (tax payers pay I guess) classes for parents that do not know how to be responsible parents. Obviously from some of the children in our city not all parents that need help as to how to properly raise a child go to these classes.

Good for Southwest.

This seems to be the final chapter to a very sordid tale: http://www.kpho.com/news/16813576/detail.html

I wonder if the kids behaved themselves on the Alaska flight? If so, and guess they did as no mention of their not behaving, it would appear the mother can control them when she finds out it is necessary.

creflors: In the car business, they say that there is an ass for every seat.

In the food business, they say there is a hotdog for every bun.

Darn it- Southwest caved.

Bet they are on their "No fly" list.

I really pity Southwest for all the abuse their staff has to put up with from rude and non-compliant passengers.

As one pundit recently said while discussing discount airlines, "when you let the riff-raff fly, you pay the price."

Crude. Cruel. Crass.

But, we must admit, accurate.

Shame on CNN for covering this and giving voice to these losers.

The story broadcast by CNN came from KIRO in Seattle. Please explain why CNN should not have aired it.

Just to point out that Southwest Airlines is not the only one kicking off unruly passengers.

CNN was totally on the side of the passnegers and the kids. I was totally on the side of Southwest and was really happy that most on this blog are as well. It is just an example of how news stories are covered. Unless you are there you really don't know what happens. I was not there, but you could tell by the statements the woman was making that she should not have been allowed to go on the connecting flight. Allowing children to run around simply is not allowed. I do understand that a lot of children have special needs, but still rules have to be obeyed in many areas of life.

Boo hoo...they had to pay for last minute tickets and they got a refund from Southwest? On of my friends just had to jump through hoops to get a refund on a ticket for her FIL who passed away. They are still charging her MIL the price of a higher last minute ticket....
They look like white trash to me. I would love to hear what the other passengers have to say about this.

"I like the pregnant sister missing teeth segment- it gives it that homey, hill-billy rant charm" LOL!!
