My friend is visiting us on Oahu, along with her husband and 3 young children (ages: 2,4 & 8). They usually visit every year, we'll be getting together for dinner - any recommendations for a restaurant to take them to?

Are you looking for an inexpensive to moderate place? Duke's in Outrigger Waikiki is always a good choice.

Makino Chaya in Aloha Tower Marketplace is about $26 or so. They have a good seafood buffet.

Todai in Waikiki is another seafood buffet also around $26.

Top of Waikiki is decent.

Hanohano Room on 30th floor Sheraton Waikiki has one of the best views from any restaurant.

another vote for Duke's Waikiki. Perfect location right in the heartbeat of Waikiki. Great place for kids as it's open and noisy. Decent food and excellent drinks. Something for everyone!

Where on Oahu?

I think Pinkys Pupu Bar in Kailua would be suitable for children of that age. They have someone making balloon animals on certain nights of the week and the kids seem to have alot of fun. Food is really nice too with huge portions - we liked the cocktails (esp the flat island tea & margaritas). It's very inexpensive too.

We visited friends on Oahu who took us to a "local secret". It was called Ige's and I believe it was near Pearl Harbor. It was set up like a large school cafeteria....the food was absolutely amazing....Joe's flat meat...out of this world. The portions were huge and it is COMPLETELY casual. It's not a place a tourist would go, but it's a place this tpurist HIGHLY recommend for great food at a great price...I don't think anything on the menu was pricey and it was AWESOME>

How about The Willows?

I live up the hill from Ige's - it does have good food, but I've only been there a couple times because it gets so crowded.

I'll have to remember the "flat meat" recommendation.

I just went to Oahu and had a very good experience with 2 kids at the new Roy's in Waikiki. I've been to Roy's many times, but this one seemed to be especially in tune with kids. They have free toys, coloring books, and a really excellent kids meal with appetizers (carrot/celery with dip and pita bread). Oh also, the adult food is good!

I was ever so charmed at the Hau Tree Lanai, which is right on the beach, and you dine among gnarled old trees. There were mostly families with children when I was there, a bit early to see the sunset.

It's the only restaurant I went to, though, but it was recommended here at Fodor's.

For good inexpensive food away from Waikiki, just down the street from the Pearl City Mall, are Bravo's, which is an Italian restaurant, and just above it is Anna Miller's, with good home style cooking. Anna Miller's is famous for it's pies, somewhat like Tippen's. Bravo's has a select lunch menu which gives excellent value with good portions. And their garlic rolls are to die for.

How about Zippy's????

Our children and their parents loved Duke's. Right in the heart of things with the beach steps away. Plenty of Hawaiianna. We dined in a quaint private tiki hut inside the restaurant.

Ala Moana Food Court. Everyone gets what they want, and all can sit together.
