Fall colors

I know this varies from year to year.......but when is generally the best time to see the fall colors in New England/Canada?
Is mid Sept too early?
Thank you

You'll have to refine your request a little more. Soutern New England to Canada covers a lot of territory and the peak foliage spans several weeks.

You can find a lot of good sites with this info if you just search for "fall colors" in Google.

Generally, you ask?

I would say the last two weeks of September, first two weeks of October. Generally-speaking.

Of course, it depends if you start north or south. North "generally" turns color first.

Mid September would have to be in the far north - Canada - if at all. the prime leaaf-peeping weekend for New England is usually Columbus Day weekend (Oct 12) and you won;t find leaves turing in NYC and south until end Oct or early Nov.

Thank you to everyone for your replies. To be more specific, I am wondering about New York, Boston, Bar Harbor, Halifax, and up to Quebec.
Sounds as though mid Oct. should be the earliest.....and starting in Quebec and then south.
Thanks again!

The foliage starts in the far northeast and moves south and west, so your best bet would be to travel likewise. Once you determine your starting point, check typical foliage dates, then plan accordingly.
