Fabric Stores - Maui & Oahu

I know I have read here in the past about fabric stores, but I can't seem to find the specific posts. (Okay, I'll admit that I'm being kind of lazy and I didn't read through all the Hawaii shopping posts) I think on Oahu, there is one in Chinatown?

Any help is appreciated. My Mom is going over next month and would love to buy Hawaiian fabric.

Thanks!

Aloha icee,

When you're in Chinatown stop by HA fabric store for traditional Hawaiian fabrics... for sprucing up the many areas of your home that need a tropical change... tablecloths, pillows, curtains.

One of my favorite things to do with these bright cheerful fabrics is to wrap gifts. My friends and fam LOVE receiving a gift wrapped in beautiful fabric and raffia or pretty ribbon. I especially like to do this at Christmas... the gifts under the tree look wonderful until I give them away. Sometimes you can find silk tropical flower stems to attach... very aloha in spirit!

Check out hawaiifabricmart.com/ --you can also buy fabrics at their store. They are not in Chinatown, but closer to Waikiki & Ala Moana.

On O`ahu, it's definitely Fabric Mart on Kalakaua Avenue (on the fringe of Waikiki -- www.fmart.com. You can get directions, here:
http://honolulu.citysearch.com/profi...bric_mart.html

When I lived on the mainland, all my friends would give me their fabric shopping lists. I'd hit Fabric Mart, get everyone's stuff -- and then have the whole pile shipped to me in California. No free, but definitely nicer than having to lug it all back!

Ha! Melissa and I had the same thought at nearly the same time -- and yes, it's the same store (nice new website!).

There's a great fabric store in Kahului. I bought enough material to make a beautiful bedspread for my king-sized bed when I returned. Huge selection, friendly service, and reasonable prices! Highly recommended. If you don't run across the information about it during your research, I'll look up the name and address for you...

It was called Fabric Mart and my husband recalls it being in Wailuku.

There are several Fabric marts- one on kalakaua Ave (near Waikiki)and one out in Aiea. Don't know where the others are.

Kaimuki Dry Goods on 10th Ave (in Kaimuki) is another good fabric store, but not as much variety (in Hawaiian prints) and has higher prices than Fabric Mart.

You were right the first time Crazy, Fabric Mart on Maui is on Ka`ahumanu Ave in Kahului, not in Wailuku.

There is a great store in Kauai called Kapaa Stitchery on the main road at the turn for Wailua Falls. Has handmade shirts (expensive) but a good selection of Hawaiian and Asian fabric.

The Aloha Stadium Swap Meet also has some Hawaiian print fabric.

Hawaii Wal-Mart stores also have lots of Hawaiian print fabric. (not as much selection as Fabric Store)

Mitch - The swap meet also has ready made squares of Hawaiian print for quilting. There are a couple different sizes available (about 6" or 8" squares). They come in stacks about 4"-5" high.

No store in the islands can beat Fabric Mart's huge inventory and wide variety (they carry more than just Hawaiian print).

Kapai`a Stitchery here on Kaua`i is popular with quilters -- who go there for traditional quilting patterns & classes and fabric squares -- but the prices are higher. It's located just down the hill from Wilcox Hospital in Lihu`e.

Check the fabrics at Wal-Mart too -- not a big selection, but the prices are low. And in that same neighborhood, just kitty-korner from Hilo Hattie in Lihu`e is Discount Fabric Warehouse and a Singer Sewing Center.

If you get to Kapa`a, right on the highway -- in area of Pono Market & Pono Cleaners -- is Vicky's Fabrics (a favorite with locals, for decades).

Thanks, all! I have printed out the FabricMart locations for her. What an unbelievable selection on their website! I can only imagine what the store is like.
