Wilmington NC? You won't swim, but it is relaxing on the NC beaches. Or even nicer, Charleston SC. Further south, maybe not moderately priced would be Naples, Marco Island.

Unfortunately we haven't had this opportunity but how about Hilton Head Island?It has everything that you mentioned with Savannah and Charleston as reasonably close day trips.You might need Fodorites help with the moderately priced part.

Would second Southern Arizona with Green Valley particularly geared to your activity level. It has 12 recreational centers with heated pools, tennis, bocce and racquetball courts as well as courses in photography, cards, ceramics, woodworking, etc. Most properties in GV are Green Valley Recreation deeded which allows use of any GVR facility. Renters pay a nominal fee for monthly use of all facilities. The area is also noted for golf courses. It has the Santa Rita Mountains for hiking, birding or just enjoying the sunshine and moderate climate. There are observatorys for astronomy fans, Titan Missile Museum, Caverns, Casinos, Sonoran Dessert Museum, Pima Air and Space Museum, and numerous smaller museums as well as many theater, music, art, southwest cultural, and dance offerings in the area. We live in Ontario Canada and faced the same dilemma about where to escape the winter climate.

Three years ago we "found" Naples Florida which met all our requirements - warm weather, great beaches, lots of golf & tennis, great shops & restaurants and a variety of cultural activities.

For us this place is "paradise".

My parents go to Naples Florida for the winter and love it. They are part of the year residents there, but only go for the cold weather months.

Puerto Vallarta on the Mexico west coast would be my first choice for January and February drfapa. Beautiful weather, relaxing, good food and all of the things you mentioned.

Well, dfapa, we enjoy going to San Diego, every January or Feb, sometimes as late as March to enjoy the sun, surf, and a temperate climate. Lots of nice places north of SD..
