Experiences from people who have used Priceline for flights?
We will be going to Hawaii in October of this year, and have been watching for seat sales for some time now. (We are travelling from Canada.) So far nothing has come up. I was wondering about experiences that people have had using Priceline for airline tickets. I have used them for our car rentals while we are there, but I am very hesitant to use them for airline tickets. I would appreciate hearing anyone's experiences.

I used them once for airline tickets from Newark to Shannon, Ireland. I was booked on a direct flight on continental. I would go to biddingfortravel.com and check out what others have gotten from them. I just remember the price I bid did not include taxes & fees which were somewhere around $50-75 per ticket.

I have not done it myself. I think there are 2 tentative mistakes people make. Budman has mentioned one. When you bid, taxes and extras are not included. I remember the first time my cousin tried this, because she didn't realize this, she wound up paying more than she could have paid for a ticket after taxes were added.
The other potential problem is time of day for tickets. All you can specify is the date you want to travel. You could wind up with an outbound flight that departs on your chosen date at 11:55pm and returns on your chosen date at 6am so you'd in essence be loosing 2 days of a vacation. I've never read biddingfortravel on airline tickets. Perhaps there's a trick to avoiding this problem.

I didn't realize that the taxes & fees would be as high as they were, but I still feel, after all that, that I got a good deal. Also, I was comfortable with the time thingy because most airlines fly to Ireland in the evening. But that's a good point when flying/bidding in the states -- you get a good price because no one wants to travel at the off-peak times.
Not sure, but I'm thinking that flights to Hawaii may be certain times of the day, coming and going, similar to TransAtlantic flights.
