Exchanging an E-Ticket for a paper ticket.
I'm flying next week from DFW to O'Hare on United at 7:30 a.m. I've seen where the United Pilots are not voluntering for any OT and starting next week United is going to spread the cancellations out as to not mess up its California routes. My question is how easy is it to turn an E-Ticket into a paper one (yes I know I should have gotten a paper ticket in the first place), and would that be advisable to do. There is a ticket office in town that I can go to, to take care of this matter.

Under the circumstances, I'd get a paper ticket. It's always easier to make last minute changes with a paper ticket. From what i understand, it's impossible (or nearly) to get another airline to accept an E-Ticket if your original carrier couldn't accomodate you.

It is very easy. I did it at the end of March when it looked like USAirways might shut down operations. I just walked into the ticket office and they processed new tickets in a matter of minutes. If you have any doubts about the status of your flight, you should definitely get a paper ticket.

Present your ID at the United counter at that ticket office and they should be able to get you a paper ticket.
I Looooove e-tickets, but in your situation I think getting a paper ticket will allow you to switch airlines easier if you need to.
