Essex Connecticut
Can anyone recommend an inn, hotel, motel in or near Essex, Connecticut that they have stayed at recently? Most of the popular places I've read about have not gotten good reviews regarding their room accommodations.

We have stayed at the Griswold twice. We only stay in the small house across the street from the inn. The rooms were fine. We stayed on the first floor, had a queen sized bed and a large bathroom.
I would also check out The Copper Beech Inn in Ivoryton. We had dinner there and it looked lovely.

ALl I can say about "The Gris" is you should stay out of the main inn and do try to face away from same. Once cocktails get going, the music in the tavern can be loud. BUT~there are two places across the streets(different ways) from the main inn which should be fine. Depending on how far you want to travel, you can also look at the Middletown Inn. It may be less $ than the Copper Beach but a greater distance to drive(on the hey) however. We were in Essex last year for Wesleyan graduation and "commuted" from "The Gris" because the Middletown Inn was booked.

I would definitely recommend the "Bloated Bopper Inn" in Essex. Their room service is second to none and they've always had my order waiting at my door at least 5 - 10 mins before the time I expected it, a pleasure for sure. And more importantly the entire hotel is on the same floor, no second floor there, and no stairs to climb. The only problem I've had there was that the doorways are a bit narrow, if you're wider than 3 feet I'd stay away, or be sure to bring some grease.
Be sure to ask for "Highway View", they have a wonderful view of the interstate with many tantalizing billboards of all the restaurants in the area, unless you're blind this would be the way to go for sure. The rooms have a handy dandy dimmer switch for those intimate moments when you want to show some skin, but at the same time disguise any unsightly rolls.
I had a little accident the last time I was there and they have a nurse on premise (I believe her name is big bertha) that can handle any situation thrown at her, she even had cushioned insoles for my shoes in my size and in stock!
Anyways, I hope you go with the Bloated Bopper In! Good Luck!

I'm not sold on the BBI. I have a much nicer place in mind.
The place to be in essex is without a doubt the Indigestion Inn.
The name says it all, all you can eat breakfast buffet and it starts at 5am! The downside about the breakfast buffet would be that it doesn't last long enough, only until 11am. Not to worry though, the all you can eat lunch buffet starts @ 11:01 am and not a moment too soon.
The buffet fun ends at 4pm, and sorry to say that the I.I. doesn't offer a dinner buffet. But if you make your way over to the plump pavilion for dinner you will be more than satisfied for sure. They serve a decadent array of food that is "Sumo" approved and guaranteed to fill you up.
If you can manage to find time between buffet's, there is a pool that was put in just last year by Sea world. If it's good enough for Shamu it's good enough for me. If you keep the splash to a minimum they'll give you a free fish.
The rooms are spacious and will accomodate even the widest of loads...no grease here. The Indigestion Inn is located in the middle of Essex county on the corner of OPedic Place & Shoe Street. I hope you have a great time!

Hey chunkymonkey and BlindHunger.....
I am not sure if you are serious or not, but I have not been able to find either one of these two Inn's on Google. I have not even been able to locate OPedic Place or Shoe Street in Essex County. I am hoping this is not a joke because both these places sound too good to be true.
Can you provide additional information; perhaps a phone number or email address for these two Inns?

Thanks for making me laugh Chunkymonkey and BlindHunger! Next time you stay at those places, just use the butter from those wonderful breakfasts you mentioned to get through the doors.
