Deals- Low or no admission to most DC sites and NYC Muesums (some are donation only). Watching a live taping of a TV show (just got back from Millionaire taping today). Free entertainment.
Ask, Ask, Ask. Airlines, hotels, resorts, restaurants can give deals just for the asking - but you must ask. I've received Companion fares on Delta (to Bozeman, MT) just because I asked. I've had rooms upgraded, basic room charges reduced, free airline vouchers and price fix meas - but I had to ask. Most of the time I ask-not complain. However, it is sometimes the option of the service person to give 'deals' to close a positive customer experience.
The business I am in trains the sales people not to offer the best price/deal/rate, but to match or better if, and only if, the customer requests it. [Home Depot will match a lower price, but won't do it on their own, for example]

I would say the best travel deals available are off-season, weekday hotel rates in Las Vegas. Last year I was able to get a gorgeous room at Paris Las Vegas with a view of the Eiffel Tower and the Bellagio fountain show for only $39/night. While I haven't seen rates this low this year, almost every hotel offers a great deal on off-season, weekday rates.

Don't know about travel deals in general, but at least I can speak for rental cars. In my opinion the best rental car deal is the weekend special from Enterprise Rent a Car. Typically their deal is $9.95 a day for subcompact. That usually gets you a Dodge Neon or Ford Focus.
