Emerald Isle comments?

Found a home to rent on Emerald Isle that accepts pets for the first week of October.

Never been to EI. Any comments about the beach and the area in general? How did EI weather Ophelia? Will we be able to take our dog onto the beach, etc.?

Thanks!

Emerald Isle is about 12 miles long, lined with beach cottages, and almost entirely residential. The beach is nice, with a gentle slope, tan-colored sand, gentle to moderate waves. No lifeguards when we've been there (several times) but that's not always true. I don't know how much sand Ophelia pulled away, but some, I know ... you might want to call your rental office for a report.

I hope your rental is not "Sandy Feet" ... we rented that last time, and it smelled of cat p***!!! We have a dog, and always need a pet-friendly place, too. I am very picky! Some of the P-F places are dumps, so be prepared to ask to be moved if you get a bad one. We had to do that the first time ... since then, no problem! Emerald Isle Realty has always been outstanding to deal with ...

Have a great trip. I love October in Emerald Isle. Be sure to go to Swansboro (across the bridge, great shops!) to eat at Yana's 50's drugstore. Excellent food ... Also, we always eat at The Crab Shack which is actually up the road in Salter Path, I believe. Have fun!

My cousin lives in Emerald Isle and said there was more damage from the storm than many folks expected. It will not interfere with access to services, restaurants, etc, but it did make some changes in the shore.
Your dog will LOVE the beach..

I meant to ditto the suggestion from Bonniebroad to try Yannas. Best fritters ever and absolutely first rate milkshakes...oh, and the onion rings..!
