Embassy Suites Convention Center-DC
I'm leaning towards an Embassy Suite for the extra room, but I found a considerable difference in price between the one on 10th (Convention Center) and the one on 22nd street (with the atrium). The difference is about $100.
Does anyone know why such a big difference?

I can't explain the price difference, but I can say that we stayed last summer (2007) at the Embassy Suites on 10th and liked it very much. Good location; we could walk to lots of stuff. Very nice hotel.

Which is the more expensive?
10th street in the center of the lively museum/entertainment district, 22nd is a residential/office area between Foggy Bottom and Dupont Circle, a nice walk to Georgetwon.
The two hotels are in very different neighborhoods but both are safe and served by Metro (a bit farther from Metro at 22nd).

The 22nd St property has long been popular with families, while the 10th St hotel is new and pitched toward conventioners. Perhaps there's nothing big happening at the convention center, and they want to fill those rooms somehow. I expect you'll be happy with your choice.

That's why I asked, it seemed to me that the newer, central place would be the more expensive one. I guess it is a matter of supply and demand. Candygirl, what are your dates? If they are in July-August, that is prime family travel time and dead for business/conventions.

The best maps for getting oriented to DC are (IMHO) at stationmasters.com. Go to the Hotels list to bring up a nice detailed street map of the area your hotel is in, complete with landmarks and Metro stations.

The closest I've found for New York (They also do DC and several other cities) is the "Not For Tourists" series of books, also available page-by-page online:
