Elevations - are they sometimes scary?
Want to drive from Sedona to GC to Las Vegas and back to NY from there. I am moderately afraid of heights. Is this a real issue. Am I often driving at the edge of a cliff? Is there a more direct route someone could recommend to avoid this?
Thanks

From Sedona to the Grand Canyon you won't have any problems. You don't drive along the edge of the canyon if that's what your are worried about. From Grand Canyon to Las Vegas taking I-40 won't be a problem either.
You won't have any problems on I-15 from Las Vegas north though Utah, but I-70 has some drop offs, but since it's an interstate you can stay away from the edge lane! I-70 though Colorado is beautiful, but again it's some mountain driving. Just say on the inside lane and you should be fine or skip Colorado and take I-40 to OK.

Thanks for the great tips utahtea. Statia, can you please tell me when you said that you went on the same trip that utahtea suggested, are you talking about I40 to OK or I 15 staying away from the edge?
Thanks

The scenic way from Sedona to the Grand Canyon is to go north on 89A up Oak Creek Canyon. The road is fine, but it is a winding road that you go slow on. Not a problem especially going up the canyon. If you wnat to avoid the road you need to go back to I 17 from Sedona and then north to Flagstaff. I would Highly recommend taking Oak Creek Canyon road...Beautiful. Also, if you're doing it during the daytime, at the vista at the top of Oak Creek Canyon there are native american vendors selling jeewelry that is a lot less expensive than Sedona prices and the money goes directly to the vendors.
