Eden, NC

What can you tell me about Eden, NC? I may find myself spending some time there in the coming year and was curious. Weather, entertainment, dining, general feel for the town, etc.? I know it is close to VA, but that's about it so far.

Eden is not far from Greensboro which has lots of shops, entertainment options and restaurant. Eden is essentially a mill town. I would recommend you base yourself in Greensboro if possible. From Greensboro you can easily reach Winston-Salem, which has an outstanding historical district, Old Salem. You can also get to Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham from Greensboro in an hour or so. The weather in this part of NC is generally mild with spring and fall being the best seasons. Summer can be pretty hot and humid. What are your interests?

I would be going to spend some time with an old friend, so I would be staying in Eden. I have not seen her for a very long time, but she used to be one of my Hollywood party buddies back in the day. I am having a hard time imaging her living in a mill town in NC, but sometimes we end up in the place we least expect. She moved there several years ago when her husband's career took them there.

The type of things to see and do in that area will be the deciding factor as to how long I decide to stay Her husband will be in Germany for 6 weeks this coming fall and she has asked me to come and keep her company for as long as I'd like. There is no way I could spend 6 weeks on the east coast, but I'm trying to decide between one week, 10 days, 2 weeks. I have tried to convince her to come to Maui instead, but she has been to HI and keeps telling me I need to see NC. I have some friends in DC, Maryland and towards the coast, so I can always rent a car and escape if Eden gets to boring.

If you come to Eden there are things which could keep you busy...plus I imagine your friend has some ideas. North Carolina is absolutely beautiful and we have some gorgeous (albeit completely different from Hawaii) beaches. Old Salem is a must see. I would also recommend day trips to Roanoke, Chapel Hill and Charlotte. If you like to hike, try Hanging Rock. If you like to bike there are several excellent routes nearby.
I am headed to Maui in May and have been stockpiling all your suggestions. Mahalo.
