Eating in S.F. Chinatown

My daughter and I will be in San Francisco this weekend looking at an art college for her next fall. Just made reservations for a special birthday dinner for her Sat night at 1550 Hyde Cafe (unless anyone has a better idea) but we want to find a fun, interesting, and inexpensive place in Chinatown for Sunday. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Bob and Kate

I'm not sure about fun or interesting, but our favorite Chinese Restaurant is called Hunan Homes. It is on Jackson Street between Grant and Kearny. Great food! We travel from Napa to have their Sizzling Rice Soup, Potstickers, Sauteed Snow Pea Leaves, Orange Chicken and other favorites. It is also around the corner from Tosca, a well-know bar with its famed Cappucino drink (not coffee, but steamed chocolate) and also City Lights Bookstore.

Thanks for the suggestion elnap. I'm not sure my descriptive adjectives were that carefully chosen. Yes, good food would be the number one most important feature for us. However, we have a lot of Chinese restaurants here in the Seattle area where we live so it's always interesting when you travel to find something that is special.
Thanks again,
bob

Not in Chinatown, but a really good and unusual Chinese restaurant: Eliza's.
Two locations, one in Potrero Hill, another on Oak & Clay. We recently entertained some friends from San Diego who had their hearts set on a "typical" Chinatown restaurant they'd read about in one of the SF guides. We gently steered them out of Ctown and over to Eliza's, and now they can't wait to return!
Here's a review w/an idea of the menu; I'm sure you can find others w/google.

We dined in Chinatown in Empress of China. Great restaurant and if you book a windowtable you will have a great view over San Francisco.

Hi herringtonb, this coming weekend is the start of the Chinese New Year so if you want to eat in ChinaTown you best try to make reservations right away I believe.

Good point, LoveItaly!! This weekend's dinners at Chinese restaurants all over the country should be packed. Chinese New Year itself starts on Feb 18 this year.

Hard to say what you might consider "Special"--one place that I really enjoyed (and is always packed) is Eric's. It's not in Chinatown, though.
