East Texas Sites

We will be traveling from Ok through East Texas to Orange Texas (hwy 271; 59; 96) next weekend to visit relatives. Is there a nice place to stay, antiques, historical sites? Thanks

I'm not an antique shopper myself, but Jefferson is known for B&B's and antique shopping. Nearby Marshall has some as well. The historic courthouse in Marshall is lovely and has a museum.

There's supposed to be a very nice hotel in Nacogdoches. I think it's an old hotel that's been restored. Nacogdoches has antiques though it's been years since I've been through there.

You could also stop in Kilgore and see the East Texas Oil Museum and the Kilgore Rangerettes museum.

I third the Jefferson idea. If you like B&B's the town is full of them in fun old Victorian era homes. Lots of antique shopping. There used to be a boat ride you could take on the river.

It's a pretty drive all the way. Beautiful trees, rolling hills. I think it's the prettiest part of Texas.
