East Coast Tour

My wife and I are going to do a driving tour of the East coast From Boston to Disneyworld next spring. We have 3 - 4 weeks to make the trip and are looking for suggestions on places to stop. We know about Philadelphia and D.C. as well as Gettysburg and Colonial Williamsburg. Can anyone suggest other places to stop ?

Outer Banks in North Carolina. I particularly fell in love with Ocracoke Island - technically it's OFF the east coast and about 30 miles (if I remember correctly) from the mainland.

Lancaster, Pa and a little further inland (might be too far out of your way), Pittsburgh, Pa and Asheville, NC.

If you are interested in seeing the DelMarVa pennisula, you can drive down the Jersey Shore, stop in Atlantic City if that's your thing and drive down to Cape May. Then you can take a ferry from Cape May to Lewes, Delaware which is the northern part of delmarva. You can also stop in Baltimore (which logistically does not work with Jersey Shore/delmarva.) Jamestown is having a big anniversary celebration. Savanah and Charleston are nice and very different from each other. Last year we did one day each in both towns. Then there's Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head. Personally, I did not care for Hilton Head, however, I know lots of people who love it.

We did our South-east tour last year so I'll give you the places we stayed -
Start Washington DC-Anapolis-Williamsburg-Kill Devil hills(outer banks)-Wilmington- Charleston-Savannah-Stone mountain(Atlanta)-Gatlinburg(Smoky mountains)-Blueridge highway Asheville,Roanoke,Charlottesville-Skyline drive Front Royal-Harper's ferry-Washington dc -back to Belgium. The drive along the coast is pretty boring;lots of traffic and not much to see.The main attractions in my opinion were Annapolis-Williamsburg-Wright's bros.memorial and site of first flight-Wilmington takes 3 hours-Charleston and Savannah are nice but we could not get used to the humid heat and wee glad to leave for the mountain area.Paul
