My DH and I left just yesterday from Maui and had a stop in Kona for our flight home to NH. This is really hitting us hard being there just under 24 hours ago. On our wonderful trip to Hawaii we did do a puddle jumper over to the Big Island for a day while there and asked Pele to keep us safe, guess she did. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are still there. Keep safe.

I just turned the news on - 6.6 and only inbound flights are allowed. People must be scared!
Maybe somebody has Melissa's cell phone number and try to reach her? Kal? Do you have her number?
Who else is living/visiting? I hope everybody's OK.

I heard that one or more bridges on the road to Hana are down. Any one have info about this?
I'm sooo glad it's not worse. I live in Northridge, so Cal native, so I'm used to the rockin & rollin but it's always unnerving. You're literally "shaken". My heart goes out to those dealing with it.

Well, the power finally came on about 30 minutes ago.
I was sleeping when the first earthquake hit and I thought to myself "Oh, it's another earthquake". We had a small one about a month ago, and this one didn't seem too much worse, and I went back to sleep.
I was actually more shocked to find out that the power was out on the entire island. What made it harder was the lack of telephone service and very spotty cell phone service.

We felt it in the building where I live.
The building shook for about 30 seconds. No damage to our building, but some houses in Manoa Valley on Oahu & many on Big Island were damaged.
Lots of roads on Big Island damaged.
Hana Highway on Maui was closed because of boulders.
We lost power on the entire island of Oahu. Just got our power back about 5pm, almost 10 hours after the quake.
Oahu has restored power to only about 20% so far, so I feel lucky our area got restored.
