Earning FF Miles while Dining

Not sure if the readers of this forum were taking advantage of earning “dining” miles, just wanted to make a note that the entire program awards have been quietly downgraded from 10 miles/$ (most common) to 1 mile/$.

Ah, that's not exactly the case, voj. If you are referring to IDine, American Airlines FF partner, things are really better than they were for me. Both my partner and I received emails on July 1, when the new rules went into effect that since we have each dined more than 10 times (?) in the past year, we are now elite members. Since then we've been getting 10 miles for places that were only giving 5 before. And we've been given 20 miles per $ at a couple of local favorites. My favorite little lunch place in town, where I usually charge a grand total of about $8, just went from giving me 40 miles for that to 80. I get those several times a week. But the nicer dinners with wine for 2 that cost us say $75 are now earning us as much as 1500 miles!

Like most rewards programs they honor those who use it the most. I see at the top of my "account" online, that I've earned 9,646 miles on IDine so far this year, and I think my partner has earned even more.

I wondered if anyone else had noticed this! It used to be the best deal in town...I'd get more miles from a modedst business lunch than from flying to St. Louis! I guess I've eaten enough meals so that I'm in the 3 points per dollar category.

I earn an average of 150 miles per meal with Delta Sky Miles, and that's a meal of $25-30.

missypie, have you registered online? You can sign on and when you do a search it tells you how many points you'll earn at each clicked restaurant according to your status.
