Hi Buffy9297.

Hope you had a great trip to Maine! After your extensive pre-planning, what did you end up doing, in the end, and what were the highlights of your trip?

We are planning a long weekend in Bar Harbor for mid-June, staying at a B&B and hiking in the National Park. Did you try any restaurants in BH that you liked and would recommend?

Just to update people...Ogunquit and Kennebunk and kennebunkport were badly hit by the torrential rains.... many shops maybe closed..some sadly forever.. Most of the merchandise they had for the season was in their basement or they are too close to the water and obviously.. since this is the biggest disaster of it's kind since 1936..
The good news is that if your going to Bar Harbor over the bridge is the best lobster shack EVER and I'm from N.E. You pick you lobster from the tank.. add steamers, corn and whatever and find a place on the top of the buildiing next door... In Freeport the Harakeeset Inn has a great pub.. Enjoy.. the locals will welcome you....

Parrotmom, is the lobster place you recommend Thurston's, or is it the Trenton Bridge lobster pound?

Which one do you like better?

We are headed for Bar Harbor in about 3 weeks. Looking forward to returning after about 10 years. Much too long between visits!

hikerboy! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you (and the rest of the Fodorites!) Okay - here is the site where you can read about my trip. http://www.travelpod.com/members/buffy4444

I actually have over 100 photos on a different site, but to share, I'd need your email address so if anyone wants to look at ALL the photos, email me at [email protected], let me know your email address and I'll forward the site address to you.

I hope you all enjoy my travelogue and photos. Would love to hear your comments. It was great to come home after a week long vacation from my kids, but after a month back in reality, I'm ready to rob a bank, but a summer home in Maine, and spend every summer of the rest of my life there!

Again - a big THANKS to each and every one of you that had suggestions and ideas for our trip. It was all very helpful.

Hi Buffy9297.

So glad to hear that you had a great trip to Maine. I enjoyed your report on Travelpod, and I must say you covered a lot of territory and did a lot in six days!
I loved your pictures, excellent, and you had great weather the first few days. Spectacular sunrise shot! You should think about copyright.

We're headed to Bar Harbor next week for a long weekend, so we will probably give Geddy's a try, and maybe Galyn's and Havana. Also a must for us is lobster and steamers at the lobster pound/wharf (Thurston's or Trenton Bridge).

I was so disappointed when I read your entry about driving up Mt Battie to see nothing but fog. I always recommend the drive. It's a great place to picnic. So I was glad to see you retraced your steps when the weather was good and enjoyed your second visit to Mt Battie. We are looking forward to spending the first week of July camping in Wiscasset. We haven't explored that area very much. Even though we live in NH we only do a week in Maine every couple of years.
