Dupont Circle and meals

Hi! Going to DC this week with my family. Our nine year old has been to many restaurants, and behaves very well. I would love some suggestions for Italian food, a good place for crabs, and a steak house. We would prefer a moderate place, but most likely will splurge one night. Thanks in advance!

Al Tiramisu on P Street (between 20th and 21st) is a great little italian place, very cozy and great food at reasonable prices.

Here's a great site with reviews. After you pcik "DC" You can search by neighborhood, price, &cuisine. metrohttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/eg/section/restaurants/index.html
My choice for the splurge would be Montmarte (one block from eastern market) 327 Seventh St. SE Washington, DC
202-544-1244 Reserve now!

Pesce is a seafood restaurant just a few doors down from Johnny's Half Shell, and it's really excellent. They both are; Johnny's is slightly more bar-like and has a more limited menu, but swankier decor, while Pesce is a simple, Mediterranean style bistro. Can't help with the steakhouse--there's a Ruth's Chris in Dupont, but I've never been. Have fun!

Firefly is a new-ish restaurant in Dupont - it's located in a boutique hotel and is very small and cozy. Teh food is wonderful - risotto with chunks of buffalo mozarella was some of the best I've tasted!

Another option is Pizzeria Paradiso in Dupont - rumored to have some of the best pizza in the city.

For Italian with a child, I would simply recommend going to Anna Maria's on Connecticut (east side) just about a block north of Dupont Circle. It's a good small, family-run Italian restaurant -- I prefer it to the trendy Pizza Paradiso (where you may wait forever and it's noisy), etc. The pizza is good there, sure, but Anna Maria's is more pleasant overall and more appropriate than a place for adults/romantic dates.

I like Blackie's for steak, myself, although I haven't been there in some years. I think it still gets rated very highly for that, however, and it's very close.

The previous poster is right on....love Piuzza paradiso but Anna Marias is a solid bet for good food and a reasonable price. More expensive, but very nice atmos[phere, great food and reasonable in a city of overpriced restaurants is Primi Piatti on Pennsylvania Avenue. Authentic Italian, and a very nice staff.

The Palm is the city's best stek house but you will pay the price. Just a few blocks south of Dupont Circle.

Have a blast!
