I have held rooms for about the same rate at these hotels near the French Quarter - can anyone help me pick which would be the best locataion and hotel overall?

We've stayed at both the Hampton Inn and Courtyard and prefer the Hampton. Plus breakfast is included.

The location of the Hampton- If the one by St. Charles? is better than Drury. Where is the Courtyard? Myself- I like staying in the Quarter- IF that is where you will be touring?? Last I stayed at the Holiday Inn- great location!

I always like Hampton Inns... never been disappointed in one. Haven't stayed at the other brands....

I like Hampton Inns and Courtyards. Room wise they are comparable.

The paid breakfast at the Courtyard is better than the freebie at the Hampton.
But, if you are a light eater, or not particular, then the Hampton is fine. I have used quite a few Hamptons and never had a bad one.

Well, tripadvisor gives the Hampton and the drury pretty good reviews.

Now can we walk back from bouron safely at night to these locations or do we need to cab it?

Drury looks to be about 15 blocks or so from the action. I wouldn't make that walk in the dark. I am not familiar with where the Hampton is. Sounds like it is closer from a earlier poster, I'd go with as close to the quarter as I could.

We are staying at the Drury, last week in May. It has a free full B-fast (if that interests you). I make it out to be 5 short blocks from the corner of Bourbon and Canal. Not 15. Don't know about the area as far as night walking goes but we will probably cab it most places at night, anyway. I chose the Drury because of the good reviews in tripadvisor and the (more or less) central location to FQ, Garden Dist., Harrah's, Superdome, etc. Also, it has a roof-top pool.

Try Priceline.com. We are staying at the JW Marriott for $60 night in July. Biddingfortravel.com can give you an idea of what zones to bid and which hotels come up in those zones, so that you are not bidding blindly. Good Luck!

The Hampton Inn is at 226 Carondelet St., which is just over one block from Canal. It is the same as Bourbon St, but changes names the other side of Canal. It is perfectly safe to walk back to at night.

How long and safe would the walk be from the corner of Bourbon and Canal to the corner of Poydras and Carondelet?

cruss99, it's about 4-5 blocks -- some quite short ones, really. I didn't find it particularly scary, but it never hurts to be extra careful, either. For a little extra security, it's an easy enough matter to head through while you see others walking down the street. It is fairly well-traveled, since there are a number of hotels along Poydras and in that immediate area. (I believe the St. Charles Avenue streetcar runs down Carondelet, too, but I don't know the hours or schedule for that.)

The central business district is dark and empty at night. I don't stay there as I like the FQ night activities. The Dury is past Lee Circle- take a cab at night. If with a group then you can consider walking but if drinking etc- again cabs are easy to get.
