driving to San Francisco
we are driving to San Francisco from Vancouver, B.C. Canada and would like recommendations/suggestions where to stay halfway to San Francisco, need to be in San Francisco early afternoon Sat.Aug.5th.

Driving to San Francisco from Seattle, we spend a night in or near Ashland.

Ashland is a wonderful stopping point - but it is still a good 7 hours away from SF, if I recall correctly. So plan accordingly. otherwise, i guess something near Lake Shasta would be pleasant.... It's mostly about managing your driving time, I would say.

Thanks to all who replied. I neglected to ask for hotel recommendations, decent under $200 a night in San Francisco.

Ashland-San Francisco is 350 miles, which we drive in about five hours. The problem is finding a good, quick place for lunch along the way.
