Driving to North Rim of GC from Gallup
How is the road from Gallup to Tuba City (mostly Hwy. 264) through the Hopi reservations? It's marked as "scenic" on the map, but we wondered what the driving conditions are.
Thanks for any help!

We've done the whole trip in our motorhome. The section between 191 and Tuba City we've done twice. There are some windy sections but we did not have any problems in the motorhome and I know you will be fine in a car. I really like taking this route.
From Gallup you Hwy 491 (old Hwy 666) to Hwy 264. You might want to make a quick stop to see Window Rock arch in Window Rock, AZ.

At first you go thought some forested areas and then by the time you reach 191 you get into more scenic vistas.
Make sure you check out the Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site near Ganado and Hwy 191
There aren't many modern services between Gallup and Tuba City, but Tuba City has everything.

Utahtea,
Yes, we know time is running out for this year! But I think we will go in the next 10 days or so.
Obviously, this a last-minute trip, but we've just decided we want to go somewhere, and the North Rim has been on our list for a long time.
So the atlas has come out (never really gets put away) and we're very excited about hitting the road. Oh, the joys of retirement!
We usually do lots more advance planning than this, but I don't think we can go too far wrong.
The semi-plan is to head to Sedona after the N. Rim.
Any suggestions and advice will be most appreciated.
