Does anyone know how long it takes to get to Mirimar Naval Station from downtown San Diego?

I know it is only 50 miles or so but southern California driving situations can be tricky.

I'm assuming you are talking about Mirimar Naval Air Station/USMC Air Station, the old home of the Top Gun School?

It is only about 15-20 miles at the most. I would think, with the exception of rush hour, it would take about 1/2 hour.

Marine Corse Air Station Miramar is much closer than 50 miles--I'd say 15 or so. It would probably take you 20 minutes with no traffic, but if you tried to go up there between 3-7pm on a weekday it would take much longer.

What are you planning to see there? It's difficult to get on base if you're not military.

Camp Pendelton is about 50 miles away, up the coast on I-5. I'd say you could make it up there from downtown in 45 minutes, but the same rules apply regarding traffic and access.

Mapquest was showing Mirimar to be 50 miles from downtown San Diego. Is it really that much closer?

Take I-163 towards Escondido, and merge onto I-15 North. From there is is only a couple more miles.

Or, you can take I-805 North to Miramar Road.

The main gate is on Miramar Way which you will come to before Miramar Road. Are you visiting someone there?
