Driving Time Homer to Anchorage, Seward to Homer

Mapquest says it's an 8 hour drive from Homer to Anchorage. Is that right? And, it says it's almost that from Seward to Homer. Has anyone driven these routes in less time, and still been able to stop at a few of the sights along the way?

for non-stop driving, those times are way too long unless there are inordinate delays for accidents, avalanches, etc.

Homer-Seward is about 170 miles and can be done in less than 4 hours, not including delays or sight-seeing stops.

Homer-Anchorage is about 220 miles and will take about 4.5 hours, again, assuming no delays and also depending to some extent on where you are going in Anchorage and the traffic situation in town.

Hi, I have taken this drive many times. This time of year it can be pretty slow going, especially as you go throught the higher mountains so give yourself a couple of extra hours, inother words, at least 6 hours. Be prepared to take your time, especially since there will be a lot of snow in some parts. It's worth it though, fantastic drive and Homes is amazing!!

Maybe Mapquest is getting worse. We recently got lost because it failed to list a street we had to turn onto in order to get to the next street. But, 8 hours from Seward to Homer is ridiculous. I was going to guess between 3 and 4 hours. In summer but no traffic. From Anchorage to Seward there's quite a few places you'll want to stop along the Turnagain Arm. Between Seward and Homer it's not quite as scenic but you might want to stop in Soldotna (lunch, some good shops) or make a detour to Kenai, etc. (There's a marshy area along the road where you might spot wildlife.) But Anchorage to Seward could easily be a whole day because you will want to make some stops (tram ride up Alyeska, Portage Glacier visitors center, etc.)

I agree, this is ridiculous. I stopped relying on mapquest some time ago. Mapquest does not include scenic stops, lunch breaks, construction delays ever, so it is mystery how it came up with such timing

Go to www.freetrip.com

Homer to Anchorage 218 miles and 4:48 hrs

Seward to Homer 171 miles and 3:36 hrs

Anchorage to Seward 121 miles and 2:43 hrs.
