We did that vacation last summer. We flew into San Jose and rented a car there to travel. On the way there is a little town,San Simeon where Hearst Castle is located. This Cavalier Ocean Front Resort is by Best Western but is so great. When we were there, there was even a wedding on the beach. We purchased the Romantic Rendezvous package. This includes the ocean front room with patio and a fireplace. We went in June and yes we used the fireplace. They light the chimneys for you daily and light all the ones on the beach at night. It includes roses on arrival in your room, champagne continental breakfast, wine and appetizers on arrival, bathrobes, binoculars in which we watched the gray whales play, a wonderful picnic lunch and the best steaks one can eat in the resturant.
