We need to drive out from S.East Wisconsin to Pennsylvania in mid November. With quite a carload of stuff, driving seems to be the best way. Living in MN, winter driving is nothing new to me. Only concern is driving through the mountains when you get into Pennsylvania.

Has anyone made this trek in winter? Can you recommend any alternate routes? I will be driving back by myself so don't want to take any unnecessary risks (icy road conditions over the mountains).

Exactly WHERE in Pennsylvania? How can anybody possibly suggest an "alternative route" if they don't know the destination?

I suspect the PA turnpike would be your best bet. There are tunnels under the mountains, and I suspect it's maintained reasonable well in winter. I have not driven it in winter, though.

Pennsylvania is mountains. You have a choice of I-80 or I-70-76. The northern route maybe best. Oh I don't know really.

mid-november. What are the real chances of snow/ice. And as you say, you are used to it. The major highways/interstate are wide and maintained.
