Driving from Seward to Anchorage

Any suggestions as to 'what to do' on our way home from Seward to Anchorage. Our flight doesn't leave until midnight. we are travelling by car.

Stop at Portage Glacier, take the tram ride at Alyeska Resort, pan for gold.

Alyeska Resort. Tram Ride, hike Winner Creek Trail (very good), helicopter/dog sled tour. Or leave your rental car at Seward and ride the train back to Anchorage, although this may be cutting it close on time.

3 good places to eat in Girdwood. a is at Alyeska Base, 1 is at the top of Alyeska Tram. The other is a Cajun place a short distance from Alyeska (less than 5 minutes). The name escapes me right now.

I would get off your ship early and get on the 8am, Kenai fjords boat tour, over at 2pm. Then plenty of time to enjoy the drive to Anchorage.

On the left near Portage Glacier is the Big Game Alaska Wildlife Center. Stop in see the animals that you didn't get to see close up during your travels thru AK. Also, shop their gift shop as the prices are very reasonable and the proceeds to back to the animals and any future rescuees.

I will check out Portage Glacier and the Cajun restaurant and possibly if there is room for pie the Summit Dinner. Is Prince William Sound on the way to Anchorage (from Seward)?

Is Prince William Sound on the way to Anchorage (from Seward)?

No, PW Sound is a very large inland sea located between the Kenai Peninsula and the mainland around Cordova etc. You can access PW Sound from Whittier, which is accessed by means of a road and tunnel that branches off of the Seward Highway a little south of Girdwood.

The geography around Cook Inlet, the Kenai Peninsula, and Prince William Sound is a little complicated; you might benefit from looking at a map.

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center <http://awcc.org/home.html> is in Portage and right off the main highway.
