Driving from Michigan to Massachusetts
We are leaving early Friday morning with a truckload of household items (tools etc)that our son had in storage here in MI. It's about a 12 hour trip, going thru Canada. Any suggestions, info regarding customs? Wish us luck with the weather...we just got a GPS so that should help. Thanks...

Do you really want to go through Canada with the potential (I am not kidding) of having to completely unpack and repack the truck twice, once going in and once going out?
You may save a few miles by not going to I 90, but I cannot imagine that you will save any time.
I hope I am wrong about this, but I think this is a really, really bad idea. My experience is with young people going back and forth to college in Canada, but border crossings with loads in U-Haul's have the potential for being difficult.

My parents have made the drive from southern Michigan to Upstate NY for close to 30 years. They used to always drive up to Detroit and through Canada, but since 9/11 they've gone through Ohio and Pennsylvania and found it to be just as fast.

We took the safe route..that is..went thru Ohio, Pa, NY..;.12 hours on Friday...got in at 6:30 PM..had a great day unpacking DS belongings, setting up the garage and kitchen...left this AM at 6:30..home tonight at 6...wonderful not to have to worry about customs...wasn't that far out of the way mileage wise and who knows how long we would have been delayed at customs! Never going thru Canada again!
