Driving from Houston to Pagosa Springs, CO

We will be driving to Pagosa Springs for spring break March 9 and returning March 16. Any suggestions for where to stop? Amarillo or Tucumcari? How is the driving from Santa Fe to Pagosa Springs? We are not using a four wheel drive.

thanks,
Cindy

Hi Cindy - I don't think you will need a 4WD, the drive from Santa Fe to Pagosa Springs is only a few hours long and I don't think there's anything particular to worry about.

The closer you get to Pagosa, the more hilly it gets, but I wouldn't call it "mountainous terrain", you'll be fine!

Cindy,

I am trying to plan this trip (Houston to Pagosa springs)with my 3 kids from March 9-14 also. We are going to try tent camping the whole trip. Any way have you found or know of any events or good stops along the way?

Thanks,
Jason

Tent camping is going to be mighty cold!

I have driven from Albuquerque to Pagosa and had the road closed due to snow, so keep that in mind!

And we did just get a fair amount of snow here over the past weekend.
