Driving Directions to Ikea Schaumburg
Can anyone familiar with the area give me driving directions from Kenosha, WI to the Schaumburg Ikea...NON-interstate? I'd like to take Hwy 31 south, maybe to Lake Cook Rd, because I know there's also great shopping on Lake Cook Rd! But, from there I'm not sure of the best non-interstate route on to Ikea.

Lake-Cook Road shopping (assuming you mean Northbrook Court?) is going to be a real haul from Ikea, esp non-Interstate. Golf Road is the road that you would use to access Ikea, which if you are heading W. on Golf is going to be on your right, with Woodfield S.C. on your left. So from Lake-Cook road, you would have to backtrack (south) to get to Golf and then head west quite some distance.
It's a little tricky, cuz Ikea is set back behind some commercial office buildings, but it's a big yellow building and kind of hard to miss if you're watching for it.

You know the Ikea store is just a hop from Woodfield Mall, right? But it's at least a 45 minute drive from Northbrook Court. You might want to check the websites of the two shopping malls; as I recall, they have a lot of the same stores.
Anyway, just FYI, you can use mapquest.com to find a route; under "advanced search," select "avoid highways."

Thanks! The real attraction of Lake Cook Rd is Crate & Barrel, but if there's a better way, I could do C&B on a different trip. In that case, is there an easier non-interstate route to Ikea? I did map it on MapQuest, and there are a gazillion steps on their route. It just seems like there should be a little easier way.

Efficient and non-interstate just don't go together in this instance. And if you want to totally avoid any limited access roads, you might need more than a day to do it! However, you're going to need to get way west of 31 to reach Ikea, and you're better off doing it on your side of the state line than fighting with Chicago area traffic. How about getting over to 45 (at Bristol) and following that into Illinois. Take 45 to 83 and 83 south to 53 (Long Grove). Follow 53(Hicks Road) to Palatine Rd. Jog west a little bit at Palatine to Meacham and follow Meacham south to Evanston/Elgin Rd (Or Golf Rd., same thing). Meacham runs on the West side of Woodfield Mall. Go east on EE Rd (Golf Rd) and Ikea will be on your left.

fun...
Are you confused yet? LOL...
I live and work in Schaumburg. Just to clear up a couple of things:
Ikea is very predominately BLUE..it does have bright yellow trim. It is located on McConnor Parkway which does indeed intersect Meacham just South of I-90...but don't be looking for National Parkway in that area.
There is indeed a Crate and Barrel...amongst 200+ other stores in Woodfield Mall.
tuckerdc has the best directions but, could you find it in your plan to get on Hwy 53 South at Lake Cook? Winding through Palatine will subject you to confusing road name changes (Meacham is actually Plum Grove that far North, not to be confused with the other Plum Grove in Schaumburg).Just stay in the right lane of 53 for about 6 miles to Woodfield Rd, exit and make a right at the light at the bottom of the ramp. Take will dump you right into Woodfield. Take that to Meacham about 1 mile. Go right on Meacham to McConnor Parkway and turn right to Ikea. You can access it via Golf as tuckerdc described but that may be more confusing.
If you can't do a multi lane hwy. for 6 miles, stick with 83 to Golf Rd (aka 58), turn right (west) and follow that all the way to the Woodfield area.
