Driving between Savannah and Amelia Island Where to Stop

We are driving between Savannah and Amelia Island on Monday. We know it isn't too long of a drive but with our three kids taking a road trip for the first time who knows! Anyway. We are passing through beautiful country and while we will certainly want to get to the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island quite quickly if there is a nice spot to stop for lunch or a quick view that would be better than a generic road side stop we would love some suggestions. Thanks.

You could stop at Jekyll Island, but honestly, there isn't that much to see, and it's enough of a drive off the interstate that I'd just keep going. It's only about a 2 hour drive, Savannah->Amelia.

My advice would be the same as OO's: Drive all the way there, don't stop. Your kids would probably like it better that way, since you won't drag out the trip.

Just outside Brunswick is the Eighth Air Force Museum, right off I-95. If your kids might like airplanes and you like WWII history, this is a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours. The guides are WWII veterans, and the exhibits are very interesting.... Good movies too. And there are several places to eat in the area if you hit it around lunch time. Have fun.
