Drive up the CA Coast ~ Which cities are a must see?

Starting in San Diego and then where are the must see's? We have 5 days to drive and would like to end in San Fran.

San Diego
La Jolla
Laguna Beach
Cambria
Carmel/Pacific Grove
Half Moon Bay
San Francisco

The coast isn't really about cities - there are some you will want to explore like Carmel, Monterey and Santa Barbara, but it is really more about being on the coast.

I was talking about the most scenic bits. I'd personally get through the LA area ASAP and concentrate on the stretch between Ventura and Santa Cruz. Mainly Santa Barbara, SLO, Cambria, Big Sur, Carmel and Monterey.

How many is the "we"? Are you driving a rental car? Are you paying a drop off fee or driving back to SD on I-5?
I like driving the coast from north to south (SF to SD).
What do you all want to see other than cities?
