Drive from Philly to Newport RI

I am taking a long weekend drive from Philly to Newport RI. I would like to either stay overnight at a location or at a minimum, stop for early dinner on the 5.5 hour drive. Any suggestions? I have been to Mystic CT and found it full of tourists. Would like some quiet coastal towns or other places to walk around. Shops and restaurant selection is a plus! Also, any small B&B recommendations for Newport? Thanks all!

I would suggest Stonington Borough, a few miles from Mystic. Wonderful 18th and 19th century houses, a few galleries, a few restaurants. Nice harbor, Lighthouse museum, small beach.

Agree about Stonington and would add Watch Hill, RI.

We haven't experienced obnoxious levels of tourists in Mystic, but we have never been there during the summer or late in the school year when kids are there on field trips.
