It should take about 8 1/2 - 9 hours, depending on where you're leaving from and what time of day. Make sure to keep rush hour traffic in mind when planning. I've never done it directly, but make the trip frequently, with stops in the Buffalo area on the way up and back [daughter in grad. school there]

Be sure to plan some time to get accross whichever bridge you go across. The Canadian customs inspectors are having sporatic work slowdowns to protest wages, etc. It took me at least one hour to cross into Canada on Saturday. It took 10 minutes to come back into the States. It sounds like the slowdowns will be on weekends, but you might turn your radio on in the Western new york area to get some traffic reports. Try AM 930 or 970

Do NOT go out of NYC by going north to reach the NY State Thruway and through Albany. Also do NOT take the route that goes up Rte 17. The fastest way is Rte 80 W through the Delaware Water Gap, north on Rte 380 to Scranton and then north on Rte 81 to the Thruway (Rte 90 W). It's a faster, easier drive than Rte 17 and much faster and cheaper than taking the Thruway all the way.
