Drive from LA to Palm Springs

Hi, I am attending a meeting in Palm Springs in February, I am restricted by my ticket to fly in and out of same airport. I want to visit a friend in LA for a day or so which would require driving back and forth between LA and Palm Springs. Any tips , advice, pros, cons???
Thanks in advance

Avoid the drive to Palm Springs on Friday afternoon/evening and avoid the drive to LA on Sunday afternoon/evening. Both are brutal commutes.

Depends on where in LA that you're going in terms of freeways. Amtrak/Metrolink might be an option if you don't want to drive.

you can do it in a day, but at a couple of hundred miles each way, it could be a bit taxing. leave in the morning.

A couple hundered miles each way??? It's only ~90 miles one way. It shouldn't take more than 2 hours to LA.

Is it possible for your friend to meet you in Palm Springs? Or perhaps at a halfway destination?

Fly in and out of John Wayne, the closest LA area airport to Palm Springs.

John Wayne the closest LA airport? What about Ontario International (much closer!). Or even better, she can just fly directly into Palm Springs.

John Wayne is almost 100 miles from PS while Ontario airport is less than 70 miles.

We drove Ontario to PS on a Friday last Feb and the drive was a little traffic-y but overall it was fine. Leave yourself sufficient time if you are driving to PS on a Friday and back on a Sunday because you will have more traffic.

if you fly in & out of palm springs it would be a little calmer. the drive is not bad...unless, as mentioned, you are heading to palm springs on a friday or to l.a. on a sunday.

We frequently fly into and out of Ontario Intl Airport and there are always a lot of people on our flights who live in Palm Springs. It is by far the closest airport to Palm Springs - other than the actual Palm Springs Airport. People have told us they get better prices and service out of Ontario. Ontario is a wonderful airport - never crowded and really convenient. Drive to Palm Springs is easy (except on Friday afternoon). They also have shuttles from Palm Springs to ONT but we don't live there so don't use them so don't have any info - just talk to people who use them.
