Can anyone help me find things to do in the Draper/Pulaski area, my sister has booked a cabin in that area. I know they have hiking and water sports, but, are there good shopping areas, or historic areas we shouldn't miss? I'm not finding much on that area, so any help would be appreciated!

There isn't much shopping in the area. You'd have to go to Christiansburg and even then it's just the usual Walmart and Target. It is a beautiful area to be outdoors. Pulaski has a great little ballpark. In the summer a rookie league team plays. It's a fun evening. Shot Tower State Park features a tower used to make ammunition during the civil war. The New River trail is a bike trail that goes past old railroad towns. There are outfitter who rent bikes and run livery services. Do a Google search on New River Valley Virginia and see what you get.

If you're looking for restaurants, I have a couple of recommendations:

- The Home Place in Catawba is a wonderful, southern-style restaurant. They serve family style, which means that you get everything on the menu brought to your table in large plates and bowls, then pass around like you're at Sunday dinner. GREAT fried chicken, green beans, corn bread, roast beef, fruit cobblers, etc.

- The Italian Kitchen in Ironto is a find. My friends and I always joke that it's an Italian chef in the witness relocation program, because it's so surprising to find good Italian food in the middle of nowhere. It's not fancy, but the portions are huge. I'm particularly fond of their lasagna.

If you're looking for something to do, try spending an afternoon in Blacksburg. It's a cute little college town (Virginia Tech is located there), but there are neat little shops in a quaint setting. Also, if you're there on a weekend between May and November, there's a farmers' market on Saturday mornings.

amyvt98 is right on all counts, but a word about distance. The Homeplace (GREAT!) and The Italian Kitchen (super great!) are both about 45 minutes to an hour from Pulaski.
