Downtown Los Angeles Restaurant Scene Update

For Fodorites planning trips that might include Downtown LA . The LA Times had a recent listing of restaurants new and a few old that might be useful for the "foodie crowd".

http://www.latimes.com/features/food...,5708577.story

And in case the link goes dead, here is the list
Chaya Downtown
Drago Centro
Rivera
Bottega Louie
Church & State
Wurstkuche (sorry no punctuation)
Nickel Diner
Corkbar
Sushi Gen
R23
Water Grill

I would rate L.A. has one of the world's top destinations for dining.

Bottega Louie is fabulous! Also check out the restaurant scene around L.A. Live -- we haven't had a miss at the 2 places we dined and the 1 place at which we drank and had appetisers.

I love, love, love Rivera.

More restaurants I would put on the list:

Zucca
Roy's
Patina
Kendall's
Cole's (for the history, not so much for the food)
Phillippe (again, more for the history)

Logandog,

LA is notorious for its horrible lack of good foodie options. It is so NOT a good food destination. NYNY, SF, NOLA blow LA out of the water.

For instance, the biggest newspaper in LA only has 11 places to recommend over a 100 sq. mile area---JUST PITIFUL.

I don't know what the Parrothead is talking about.

Those listed are the NEW restaurants that have just opened in the DOWNTOWN part of Los Angeles.

Geez.

Parrothead missed the point of the article and apparently doesn't know L.A. very well.

Apparently not, or he/she is just trying to get a rise out of us.

I love Rivera also.

Or maybe he/she is upset that there is no Margaritaville or Cheeseburger in Paradise in downtown LA.

Thanks for the list. Wurstküche looks like something DH would enjoy. We were pleasantly surprised by Chalet Edelweiss, in Westchester: www.chaletedelweiss.us/action.html

lvk, I pass Edelweiss on my drive to work, but I've never eaten there! You've inspired me to check it out. That's a reminder that you might be passing good dining every day without knowing it.

The chef at Rivera opened his first restaurant about 30 years ago in a strip mall near our house.
