Doubletree Times Square v. michelangelo hotel: please help
We are interested in staying at either the Michelangelo in New York or the Doubletree Times Square in September. There is a fairly dramatic price difference with the latter being more expensive although the Michelangelo looks nicer and more elegant.
Any thoughts, suggestions, advice as to these 2 hotels would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The Doubletree TS is an all suite hotel (you get a sitting room and a bedroom)right in the middle of Times Square. Most rooms have good views. It's very popular, especially with families. You're correct that the Michelangelo is a more elegant, upscale hotel. It's about 5 blocks north of Times Square (a preferable location imo, but many want to be IN TS). There are no views to speak of. The Michelangelo does have some suites if you need extra space. The Blakely is near the Michelangelo and has some suites that might be more affordable. It's also nice but much smaller than the Michelangelo.

We stayed at the Michelangelo 5 years ago and it was wonderful -- would love to go back. My husband still mentions it. It had a very high rating here on Fodors and that was one reason we choose it -- we wanted something upscale then as it was a 50th birthday celebration.

We also loved the Michelangelo. We stayed there 2 years ago. We booked an online internet special. It was a really lovely hotel in a convenient location. I believe at one time the Michelangelo was an apartment so the rooms are really large. We actually ended up with a suite--no view but a great room.
We enjoyed the continental breakfast. They served cappucino along with coffee and tea.
They had a very nice international staff.
