Dory fishing boats on Oregon coast
Years ago we went to Pacific City not far from Tillamook,OR.
Cape Kiwanda - lots of kite flying, hang gliding...
Watched several Dory boats launch out to sea from the beach...
Anyone know if they still do that/ is there a certain time of years this goes on??
We are going there in Oct. and would love to show all this to our friends..

I was there in May of 2014 and they were running then. I just saw them coming in onto the beach. Not sure when you were there but now there is a brewery/restaurant and very nice hotel near the beach in Pacific City.
Perhaps there is a Visitor Center you could call.

Yes, the dory boats still launch from the beach at Cape Kiwanda, and the Three Capes area is still popular with para/hang gliders. (In fact, an acquaintance of mine died in a paragliding accident at Cape Lookout just last month.) You'll see para/hang gliders whenever wind and weather conditions are right, but I think dory launches coincide more with chinook and coho salmon, and albacore tuna seasons. I believe those change year to year, and by area, but am not enough of a fisherman to know for sure. Dories also go out after dungeness crab, and September - November should be good for that weather permitting.
BTW, gailscout is referring to the Pelican Pub & Brewery, on the beach at Cape Kiwanda. The Inn at Cape Kiwanda is across the road from there.
