Door county to Mackinac Island

During our vacation in October, we will be driving from Fish Creek in Door county to Mackinac Island via the upper penninsula. Mapquest says allow about 8 hour for the drive. I'm betting it will take longer.
Any ideas what we should see along the way, and what might be a good stopping off place (for the night) between Fish Creek and Mackinaw Island?

My bet would be that actual driving time will be less. Mapquest is pretty conservative and it will assume that you average less than the posted 55 MPH speed limit. That time of year, there should be little trouble averaging over 60.

Stops that I like:

Escanaba for a meal at Stone House Restaurant.

Fayette State Park - beautiful ghost town 15 miles south of US 2 in the Garden Penninsula.

Kitchi-iti-kipi Spring.

Manistique for a walk on the boardwalk or pier, and maybe a bite at Clyde's Drive-in. (Burger or perch sandwich).

Seul Choix Pointe Light 11 miles east of Manistique and 8 miles off US-2.

Seney National Wildlife Refuge 8 miles north of US 2 should be filled with waterfowl on their journey south. Hike or drive through the park.

Cut River Bridge. Take a short hike down to the tiny river that you can almost jump across. The bridge is 641 feet long.
