Carolyn, you can also go to "page setup" and mark "gridlines" if you're in Excel/Lotus.

It takes courage to step out of your comfort zone and meet other people. And yea everyone thinks I am weird too.

Hey Jorr-My Mother thought the internet was evil also until we got her on-line. Now she loves it, emails all her pals in Florida.

Snowrooster-Name the time and place! I think you could get a group to come. Plenty of Buckeyes, Hoosiers and Kentuckians posting here.

HA!! Buckeyemom, that sounds just like DH's aunt. Whenever the subject of the internet comes up, she gets up onto her soap box and preaches about the evil internet. "There's pornography on the internet, so I refuse to have one of those damn computers in my home!!" she bellows.

I do not like to argue with stubborn old folks, but I tried to tell her very gently that just because porn sites are out there doesn't mean you have to visit them. You will find indecent things on TV too, but that doesn't mean it's bad to have a TV in the house. I hope some day she comes around like your mom. Of course, I don't dare tell her about my Fodor Friends.

Your story made me laugh, PM.

It appeared that the world was coming to an end when my dear FIL had to give up his rotary phone and purchase a touch-tone phone in order to check flight information on British Airways.

I'll never forget the time when my dear MIL wanted to purchase a game for my nephews and when I said I could get it online, she wanted to know "how long the line would be", LOL

How are you feeling LoveItaly?

Hi seetheworld. Let me put it this way, I have felt better!! Have had nothing but lots of water and some Advil earlier which helped a little. This to will pass but I hate feeling ill. But as problems go I sure have nothing to whine ago compared to other peoples health problems. Thanks for asking and take good care.

My husband thinks I am addicted to this site. Which I am. But he is starting to ask me to check things out here. So he is starting to come around.

P_M-My Mom is definitely in the stubborn category! We moved her a couple of weeks ago to be closer to my brothers and she did not want to move. Didn't even help us pack! When all was said and done, she loves her new place and her neighbors! She doesn't get out like she used to because of knee problems and arthritis, so we chipped in and got her a 2 year plan to an on-line service. My niece showed her how to use it. I emailed all her friends with her new email address and they all emailed her right away. She thought it was great she could IM and email all her friends.

For those with elderly parents, most public libraries have free computer and internet classes. I think older people are scared of new technology, but once they learn it, they love it. My elderly Aunt who is housebound, told me being on-line is her lifeline.

Well, just did my leap of faith and met the nice people from the Asia board, which I never frequent. It was fabulous! It taught me, once again, that in the Fodors world, this globe is very very small.

It's funny because I know lcuy and mari808 from this board (and it turns out we know each other), but they post a lot on the asia board, which is how I got the invite. During the GTG, we all also discussed people from the Europe board. Very funny!! The world of Fodors is truly wonderful.

I'm in the UK and found Fodor's in 1998 after buying its guide to San Diego. I have checked it out assiduously since then and have corresponded with lots of knowledgeable people who have offered very helpful advice and info prior to my frequent trips to the USA. In 2000 I 'met' Frank and Teresa online through Fodors and we happened to be visiting the same area of the US South West at more or less the same time but coming from opposite directions. We met up in Cortez, Colorado, and swapped notes about our journey and what we would or would not recommend to do etc. We had a wonderful evening together, with dinner. They live in New York City and we are in the UK.

When you are assured, through 'e' correspondence, that someone is OK, just trust your mature judgement and meet up, if you can. It works, and, special, albeit long-distance friendships, may be the result of a serendipitous trip to www.fodors.com

Best wishes to all our American friends.

Joan

OK this is weird.

I lurk on this board frequently (and yes, my family thinks it is a bit bizarre) but I post infrequently and rarely get into the more familiar discussions that many regulars pareticipate in (I do read them though).

Well last night 2 regular posters appeared in my DREAM! Very strange.

Methinks I have been spending too much time on this board since returning from the Hawaii vacation.

Hi MelissaH, that is interesting because I put your cousin's name into the search engine and nothing showed up. I thought to myself, was I dreaming? But I knew I had seen her posts because of the spelling of her name which was a bit unusual. Take care MelissaH!

Hi LoveItaly, it took a lot of searching, too, but I found her. She's in this post talking about drying someone else's clothes to a crisp by mistake:

Must be genetic.

We call her Lan (short for her real name) and she enhanced it by calling herself Elan (E-lan, get it?).

Is she over 21?

If so, she can buy the 2nd round on 12-29. >-

Hi MellisaH, yes that was the post. Too funny. I wonder if Elan got the heck out of the laundromat before that woman returned. It sounds like something I would do too! LOL. Take care.

Aaaah, too bad Kal! Actually, Elan is 10 years older than I am. And she lives in Papillion, the middle of nowhere.

Sad, sad, carole, your tune never changes ... and we thought you had some class. The next time that red flag waves, it'll be your same ole bull. Ciao, L, lol
