Yes, Ryan, the order of the states definitely has an impact. I got Kansas for my 1st state -- whew! A square-ish state in the middle of the country -- tough.
Capitals would be hard. Would you have to name them AND place them?

Most of the seconds and error came on my second state--Wyoming! Without anything else in place (except Delaware) it was tricky to place. The rest of my placements were right on, so I spent my time working my way down from Wyoming's bad location.

96% 8 miles average error but it took me 400 seconds because my 13 year old was telling me to get off the computer because she needed to go to an eye appt.

This reminded me of my nightmare 9th grade geography test. We were given a blank map of the US and had to fill in the states AND the capitals.
