I am also planning a long weekend (4 nights) in the Spring in Santa Fe. We plan to visit the santuary at Chimaya and spend an afternoon soaking at the 10,000 Waves Spa. Another day shopping around the Plaza. Thank you for all these responses-they are helping me as well!

Chimayo is fascinating. If you are there at Easter time, you can see the re-enactors, or maybe they are just religous sympathizers, who carry the cross and walk the high road from Taos.

Beachbum, here's a website for Pena: www.notevena.com/Originals15.htm

Anyone have anything to say about Dancing Ground of the Sun? The Casitas look pretty nice, but I'm a little concerned about location. How far really is the 2.5 block "short stroll" to the Plaza?

b-bum,

You might want to do a forum search on "dancing ground" use quotes in the search box. I found 2 totally different opinions on the place ... one from 2004 the other from 1999.

I have been following this thread because I am planning a SantaFe vacation for October and have the same concerns. Please let us know how your trip goes.

Thanks, Donnie. I hadn't done a search on this forum. It appears that the same person who rated Dancing Ground highly in 1999 also commented in the 2004 thread, saying it had gone "straight downhill" after a recent change in operators. Yet, more recent reviews on Tripadvisor give the place high marks. Anyway, I'm also thinking about Pueblo Bonito now.

Looks like we won't be making this trip until mid-September, which would be too late for you to make any reservation changes. Good luck, and happy planning. If you stumble across a place with lots of SW/Native American character, add to this thread. We don't need a spa, pool, or on-site restaurant, but an in-room fireplace (that you can use) would be nice.
