Do you ever eat at local culinary schools?

My daughter is in her last quarter of culinary school and she is working in the school restaurant.
The deals are pretty amazing.
She just gave me the specials for her quarter in the 'galley' as it's called at the Art Institute of Dallas.

Jan 24th - Canadian Themed Dinner with Canadian Beers ($16)
Jan 31st - Blue Plate Special with Wine ($16)
Feb 7th - Nigerian Themed Dinner with Wine ($22)
Feb 14th - Special Valentines Day Dinner (call for details)
Feb 28th - German Themed Dinner with Wine ($16)
Mar 6 - Irish Themed Dinner with Wine (20)

They spend a lot of time on the menus and the wine pairings. It is a grade for the students.
The ingredients are high quality.
Obviously I will be going to one of these special meals.
They serve lunch, too. Dirt cheap!
Anyway, it just made me wonder if anyone out there goes to the restaurants of local culinary schools.

Hey TX..
Had a fab meal for lunch at the Cordon Bleu in Vegas and it was under $60 bucks and 5 courses and we had a bottle of wine..
Loved it and the restaurant was packed..

Yes, sweetie darling, I have eaten at CIA in Hyde Park several times. My husband, Keith, and I ate in Catherina de Medici last May. It was very good and I got so drunk on Grey Goose martinis that I was flirting with all the waiters (who were very gossipy). Keith just sat there and stuffed his face.

This is why I have him on a diet.

Kapiolani Community College has a culinary program at their Diamond Head campus that is just wonderful! I heard they have several programs throughout the state, I just don't know where. I know the KCC program runs the UH Medical School "cafeteria," located near Pier 1 in Kakaako. I'm trying it on Thursday, I think.

Yes, eating at culinary schools are fabulous! You get gourmet food prepared under the tutelage of a gourmet chef at "less-than-gourmet" prices.

Melissa -

report back how the UH Med School cafeteria is - it's close enough to downtown to be an option if it's worth the trip.

I like the KCC Culinary School restaurant too, though it's been a while since we've been. You have to make reservations pretty far in advance because it books up early, I recall.
