Disposable cell phones?
Has anyone actually seen a "disposable cell phone" for sale in the U.S.? (If you haven't heard of this see www.hop-on.com) If it's legit, it would be great for traveling, no worries about losing your good phone, but it seems like they never make it to market for some reason. (At least not in Minneapolis) Are they just "vaporware"?

x, in our area old cell phones are collected by certain charities because the 911 capability is still there even though there's no subscription to a service. The phones are then distributed to people who may need to make a 911 call, such as the homeless. Check it out in your community.

x- In my area, there is a program similar to the one Betsy is talking about. I have donated all my old phones to my cell phone service provider (in this case, verizon) and they make them so that they can only call 911 and redistribute them to battered women. Your cell phone service provider may be able to give you more details.

Actually, the original poster is right on target. I won't say the name of the co., but they are trying to develop a disposable cell phone. No buttons except talk and end. Works on voice activated dialing. They are still in the development stage, so no telling if they will actually make it to market in this economy.
