We are spending 6 full days in Orlando from 4th Jan - 11th. The first two are at Universal, the remainder at Disneyworld. I have spent a considerable amount of time doing research but wondered if any Fodorites have tips and suggestions from their trips.

I posted this in Facebook Fauxdors Friends also so have had some great suggestions from there.

If you go to Epcot, there is a great street performance by some mimes outside of the French restaurant.

Maybe an American thing, but the choir that sings in the American pavillion is wonderful (Epcot).

If you have a granddaughter, there is a spot in the Magic Kingdom where she can have a "princess makeover"

I am a bit over research schmerl. This trip has been in the planning stage for two years. We are also visiting Waikiki, NYC, and Washington DC. We leave in three weeks!! I was just thinking any personal experiences from Fodorites could be useful.

Biggest suggestion. They do not give you an award for seeing the most things in Orlando in the least time. Quality over quantity. Racing from ride to attraction and micro-planning will make it a checklist and not a vacation. Make a list of the 2-4 Parks you want to see. Then pick 2-4 attractions at each you most want to see, and let the rest happen. Allow travel companions to eat, rest, pee.

If you don't believe me, take a look around at around 4 PM and see crying kids and scowling adults who are just exhausted from being dragged through the Park at great speed. Difficult to escape the "but we traveled so far, spent so much money, so we must..." mentality, but try.

Have a good trip. It can be cold in Orlando in January, so plan accordingly.

Yes, it can get cold but it can also be mild. Be prepared for both. Layers are the way to go when choosing your clothing.

Gail, that is how I feel too, but I think my DIL has other ideas. I wanted to go back to the hotel in the afternoon for a break and then go back a bit later for fireworks etc, but I think son and DIL want to stay the whole time. Could be interesting!!

Since I have absolutely NO idea what information you have received on Facebook I will say only that I hope you are either ON the property at Disney or close by. Makes it a heck of a lot simpler to "go back to the room" in the middle of the day.

If you are eating at any of the Disney hotel venues I would strongly suggest reservations as well as for several of the restaurants in EPCOT.

We are not on a Disney property but at Orange Lake Resort which is not too far away. The Saturday and Sunday is going to be Marathon weekend which in my research means there is a LOT of extra traffic.
