Disneyland: Which of the three Disneyland resorts is the best?

I think my question says it all. Which is the best place to stay at Disneyland? Also, is one night (two days) sufficient?

Although I didn't stay in it, but rather walked through it I found the lodge to be outstanding. I have stayed at the Wilderness Lodge in Fl. and if this one is a companion to that it is wonderful!

Two days should be enough time if you aren't going at a notoriously busy time of year. When we visited last December we were able to walk right onto anything in California Adventure. There were much longer lines in Disneyland, but we still accomplished all we wanted to.

There's no doubt (to me at least) that the best hotel to stay in at Disneyland is the relatively new hotel owned by Disney located right in California Adventures park. I'm drawing a blank on the exact name (even though I stayed there just last year) -- the Grand Californian I think? It's the most expensive of the three Disney-owned hotels. It has the best location, with a private entrance into California Adventures, and some luxury features like a piano player in the lobby. The rooms are nice but small (and you can actually fit five into some rooms, unusual for hotels). There's a wide range of places to eat right at the hotel, ranging from fancy to simple food to go. And everything is in very easy walking distance. The hotel is tasteful and not totally Disneyesque. You won't see the mouse everywhere you look, which I prefer. We stayed there three nights, which was plenty long enough if not too long. One night is a bit short if you really want to see both parks in depth. I'd do two nights and get a parkhopper pass so I could go back and forth between theme parks.

The Grand Californian is wonderful. You can walk right out the door to California Adventure and also to Downtown Disney. Do try the Napa Rose Restaurant in the hotel - it is fabulous.

To read more info on the three resorts, go to www.disboards.com. Go to the Disneyland talk boards. You'll find discussions about the pros and cons of the three main hotels.

I have stayed at the Disneyland Hotel twice and found it very nice. The service was always good and both rooms I had were nice. Request a "daybed" room for a larger space. This has two queen beds and a daybed couch making it pretty spacious. Stayed in the Bonita Tower which can have a great view if you are lucky to get one. I think two days at the minimum, three is better. If you can, avoid Saturday and if that is one of your days get there early to Disneyland as soon as it opens and then head to California Adventure, which is usually less crowded. Do your shows on Saturday so you wait less in ride lines. Have also heard that Grand Californian is very nice. Paradise Pier ususally rates last but does also have a private entrance to California Adventure. Have fun!

If money is not the object definitely choose the Grand Californian. It is wonderful and would rate as a destination resort even if there wasn't a Disneyland or California Adventure next door. The restaurants are very good and the lobby/grand lounge is amazing.

If budget is important though, just take whichever one you can get a good rate or discount at - they are all convenient and nice enough.
