About Fastpass: There are several popular rides that have fastpass kiosks in front of them. Just put your park pass into it and your fastpass will come out. It is a ticket with the time of day to return for the ride. Free of charge.
About Festival of the Lion King: This is a wonderful show held at Animal Kingdom. No extra charge as it's included in your admission to AK.
Be sure to take sunglasses, hats and sunscreen when you go. Late August is extremely hot and humid in the south.

I didn't see this mentioned, but when we do Disney, we leave during the afternoon like everyone said, but then we come back at night for the fireworks/laser displays. The one at Epcot is pretty good. This way you don't have this huge long day to wait through to see the fireworks.
