Hi. We'll be in Savannah in September for 2 nights & 3 days and I would like recommendations for 1 or 2 FINE dining restaurants (cost is not an issue) and 1 or 2 casual, FUN restaurants (still with good food!). By the way, we're staying at The Gastonian.

Fine dining: Elizabeth's on 37th and Pink House.

Pink House or Garibaldi's or Bistro Savannah (owned/ managed by the same group) - all are EXCELLENT

Pricier (than the above) and very good - Gottleib's and Elizabeth's on 37 (IF you have a car - don't walk there)

Paula Deen's Lady and Sons is not "fine dining" in my book, but very good even though it may be Savannah's #1 tourist restaurant right now

Stay away from the Pirate House

Drive out to Tybee Island for a very casual, very fun seafood experience at the Crab Shack

SoHo Cafe is good. Family style lunch at Mrs. Wilke's Boarding House is a Savannah institution

Tea or options from the menu at Gryphon Tea Room.

The English pub on Bull - the name escapes me right now

Amen on Pirates House!! It's among the baddest of the bad. 45 South, though, is part of that complex and a little recognized gem on the fine dining scene.

Mrs. Wilkes is an experience you should not miss. If you go, get there early, it's very popular. Elizabeth's on 37th was wonderful.

Ive never had a bad meal at Lady and Sons - and usually pick up lunch to go once a month - because the wait is so long. It is busy with tourists - but the food is very good. IMHO, of course.

And, the last two recipes I cooked from her cookbook were HUGE favorites at dinner parties.

Fine Dining......Elizabeth on 37th and Gottlieb's Restaurant. AJ's Dockside Restaurant and Bistro Savannah. Crystal Beer Parlor is nice also.

Gottlieb's is excellent, one of my favorite places. Another fine dining experience is Georges out on Tybee. Vic's on the River is new but already popular. For casual fun places, Tango on Tybee, Churchills, Toucan and Sweet Potatoes are all great although you will need a car to get to the latter two as they are on the Southside.

George's on Tybee is very good, but there are very good restaurants much closer. Savannah is a foodie town and Tybee is a good 25 minutes away or more. Thirty some years ago the Pirate's House seemed so wonderful to me, but my visit five years ago was just sad.

We were in Savannah for 2 nights , one dinner was at Garibaldis and one was at Olde Pink House..they were both perfectly perfect!
We skipped the Paula Deen show because of the crowds on both sides of the street, there were so many places to eat, you really don't have to wait in a long line.
Do not forget to go over to River Walk and pick up chocolate pralines for the trip home

It's been forever since I've eaten IN Lady and Sons (and was called away early because pup was unsettled by the squeaky floors at the East Bay Inn...or was it a ghost...we'll never know). Anyhoo, I have lunch from there almost every time I go. We are usually at the Westin Convention Center and I "volunteer" to drive over to pick up a scrumptious to-go lunch for several of us. The asparagus sandwich is yummy!

I ordered the pecan sampler (chocolate covered, spiced, etc) for a Christmas present and I now receive emails with discount offers. Double yummy!

Of course, starrsville, we have excellent taste

I would consider getting lunch to take away from Lady & Sons, but those long lines down both sides of the street put me off.

Find out if the Ghost Tour went to your hotel room

I call ahead for the lunch pick up and it's ready by the time I get across the bridge.

Times on Bay & the Pink House. Siz Pence Pub for casual. I'll be interested to see what you think of the Gastonian, when we last stayed there it looked like they had been selling off the furnishings, it was very 'spartan' for that type of property. Please let us know. If you dine at the Times on Bay you may want to request a "Miss Stephanie" if they still have the recipe. A nice little drink named after my wife, w/an accompanying story.
